MY STORY
I am a medical doctor with a PhD in molecular biology and neuroscience, and a post-doctoral researcher in oncology. My academic work has focused on gender differences in immunity and brain structure, clinical trial design, and pharmaceutical regulatory work.
The story behind @drbatzdorf, however, did not begin in a lab.
It began in my first year of medical school, when I started gaining weight despite following the advice I had been given as a student of medicine. The same advice every woman is given: eat less, move more. It did not work, no matter how hard I tried.
What followed was more than a decade of independent research, conducted in parallel with my academic career, into how the female body works. I read thousands of studies on metabolism, hormones, the nervous system, fertility, and longevity. I started to see what most clinicians never have time to see: a substantial and growing body of evidence on female biology that has not yet reached standard medical practice.
I succeeded in solving my own health and weight problems and now I'm sharing everything I've learned.


WHY THIS EXISTS
There is a well-documented gap between what scientific research has uncovered and what reaches women in clinical care. The average lag between published evidence and routine clinical adoption is placed at around seventeen years and it takes even longer for the knowledge to reach the general population.
Seventeen years is a long time to wait when your body is changing, your energy is fading, your weight is climbing, your sleep is broken, or your fertility is on a clock.
For most of medical history, women were excluded from clinical research. The default research subject was a 70 kg male, and findings were extrapolated to everyone else. We now know this approach is seriously flawed. Female metabolism, hormones, immune function, sleep, and brain function differ from male biology in ways that meaningfully change what works.
I created @drbatzdorf to close the knowledge gap.
